Human Hair Wigs Are Back In Style- Newletter/Article

Human Hair Wigs Go Mainstream

Not long ago, wearing human hair wigs had a certain stigma attached to it. Human hair wigs have come in and out of style over the last century. More recently, a number of celebrities have brought the wig back. Oprah Winfrey of the Oprah show is just one of many famous people who regularly wear human hair wigs. Is that news to you? Lady Gaga is also known for wearing wigs although her style can be described as outrageous, at best. But I’m much more interested in people like Beyonce who is almost always wearing an undetectable human hair wig or Katy Perry who is constantly switching her look from bangs to no bangs.

Wearing high quality human hair wigs is not just a hair-loss solution. It is also a way to easily switch up your hair style, color, or length. And if you are wearing high quality human hair wigs like ours, no one will be the wiser, except you.

Caring For Human Hair Wigs

Are you the DIY (Do It Yourself) type? I know I am. When I see a professional doing something (i.e. washing & styling a human hair wig), I think to myself that I can learn how to do it as well or better. And I then set out to prove to myself that I am up to the task. And I must say that I have come far in regards to washing and styling wigs.

If you are the same way and want to learn how to wash and set your own human hair wigs, here are a few tips to get you started:

1) Brush your wig before washing it. This will make it less likely to get tangled during washing and it will be easier to brush and style it afterward. 2) Never apply hair care products to the hair directly as you would with your own hair. Instead, mix the shampoo (and conditioner when you are up to that) into lukewarm water, stir to mix, then dip the wig into the shampooed water. And 3) Always “block” (put) the wig on a wig head to let it air dry. Keeping it on a wig head will prevent cap shrinkage.

How to Wash and Blow Dry Human Hair Wigs

Whether you wear a human hair wig everyday or only on certain occasions, keeping it clean is important. A clean wig doesn’t only look better – it is also safer, since it’s not filled with built-up contaminants. If you don’t wash your wig regularly, it can start looking limp, greasy and unattractive. Luckily, washing and blow drying human hair wigs is remarkably easy. Since they don’t have to remain on your head during either process, you don’t have to get wet yourself.

The following information provides step-by-step instructions for washing and blow drying your human hair wig:

Washing Human Hair Wigs

Follow these steps to get your human hair wig as clean as possible. If you wear your human hair wig every day, wash it once a week; otherwise, wash it once every eight to ten uses.

Step 1: Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water. Avoid the temptation to use scalding hot water – it can be damaging to natural human hair.

Step 2: Add one tablespoon of gentle shampoo to the water. Shampoos that are designed for use by children often work very well. Unlike natural human hair, human hair wigs don’t regenerate new strands. Therefore, it’s vital to use gentle products on them.

Step 3: Gently comb out your wig before placing it in the basin. Don’t pull or tug on tangles or snarls. Work them out gently instead.

Step 4: Place your wig in the warm, soapy water. Let it soak in the water for about five minutes.

Step 5: After your wig has soaked, swirl it gently around for one to two minutes. Do not rub shampoo directly into the cap or the hair.

Step 6: Rinse the wig with cold water. Gently squeeze it to remove excess soap and water. Rinse as many times as necessary to ensure that all of the soap is removed.

Step 7: Place the wing on a wig stand. Let it air dry.

Step 8: Using the coolest and lowest power settings, use a blow dryer to dry your wig. Try not to pull or tug on strands of hair while you are drying the wig.

Do’s

– Always use gentle products on human hair wigs.

– Use cool or lukewarm water for washing and rinsing.

– Keep human hair wigs on stands while blow drying them.

– Use the gentlest and coolest settings on a hair dryer to blow dry human hair wigs.

Don’ts

– Never use hot water when washing human hair wigs. Hot water can damage hair. Hair cannot grow back; once it is damaged, nothing can be done to fix it.

– Resist the urge to rub shampoo directly into the hair or cap of your human hair wig. Doing so can cause soap to become lodged into the cap and hair. It can also damage the human hair wig.

– Don’t rub your human hair wig roughly with a towel in order to dry it. Either let it dry naturally on the stand or use a hair dryer.

– Never place a badly tangled human hair wig directly into the water. Always work out tangles and snarls prior to washing a human hair wig. Water can make tangles worse.

By keeping the preceding steps and tips in mind, you can keep your human hair wigs in tiptop shape. The more careful you are with your wigs, the longer they will last. Keeping them clean will help them last longer; it will also keep you looking absolutely fantastic!

Health Insurance Coverage For Human Hair Wigs For Medical Hair Loss?

Does My Health Insurance Company Cover The Cost Of a Wig If I Am Losing Hair Due To Chemotherapy, Alopecia or Other Medical Condition? Will They Pay For Human Hair Wigs?

Being diagnosed with cancer inevitably leads to the question: Am I going to have to go through chemotherapy? And then: Will I lose my hair? These are questions that no one should have to ask. For those who, unfortunately, are forced to address these questions, we offer our deepest sympathies. If you are already suffering hair loss due to a medical condition, your next question will be: Will I have to cover the cost of a wig out of pocket or will my insurance company cover?

We decided to call around to some of the major health insurance companies to see if we couldn’t get the answer for you. Here is what we found:

  • Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield- Offers coverage of up to $350.00 for wig purchased through an approved “network provider” if you are covered under an HMO or HMO-PS. Coverage is limited to one wig per covered patient, per lifetime.
  • Oxford Health Insurance- According to the representative we spoke with, they do cover the cost of a wig, no dollar amount provided. Coverage is limited to one wig per covered patient, per lifetime. Oxford customers can purchase a wig through a third party and apply for reimbursement or they can get a wig through a network provider.
  • Americhoice (Medicaid)- Wigs are covered “as medically necessary” and must be purchased through a “network provider”
  • Atlantis- Offers no coverage for wigs.
  • Fidelis- Wigs are covered “as medically necessary”.
  • GHI- Offers no coverage for wigs.
  • CIGNA- Does offer coverage. However, since plans are customizable, some plans do cover wigs while others do not. Please contact CIGNA to see if you are covered.
  • Aetna- Offers no coverage for wigs
  • NYS Medicaid- Offers coverage for wigs. “The request must be submitted by an enrolled Medicaid DME provider”

This list is in no way comprehensive. If you don’t see your health insurance company listed here? Call them and ask them if they do offer coverage. If you would like to share that information with others who may share your provider, please email this author and we will add the additional information.

What are the different hair qualities available for human hair wigs?

What are the differences between your different human hair wig lines?

As mentioned in an earlier blog, it is difficult to determine hair and wig quality from a photo. What can be seen are the obvious signs of cheap wig like frizzy, unruly looking hair. However, the complexities of a cheaper wig vs. a good or excellent wig are less noticeable in a photo. It is important to understand the differences in hair quality and the production methods employed in the making of each wig in order to determine the best choice for you.

I will discuss our more expensive line, Fortune, first. Fortune wigs are made with virgin (unprocessed) European hair. This means that the wigs are not chemically processed, or dyed. The hair color is its original color. European hair is widely known as the finest, silkiest hair in the world. Of course, this distinction has not gone unnoticed by those cutting and selling hair wholesale to international markets. That is one of the major factors in the higher cost of our Fortune line. Additionally, each Fortune wig is sown with a unique “Rootless” weave. The rootless weave is a labor intensive process where the hairs are sown to the cap leaving the roots completely invisible. The lack of root visibility means that, at a glance, anyone looking will assume the hair is growing naturally out of your head. The quality of our weave isn’t comparable to a wig purchased anywhere else. The combination of a well woven wig plus the virgin European hair means that a Fortune wig is an investment in your future beauty. When cared for properly, a Fortune wig can last 10-15 years.

Our more affordable Mazali line wigs are woven with the same rootless method employed with our Fortune line. What differentiates our Mazali line from our Fortune line is the hair, where it comes from, and its quality. Please note that while the hair used in our Mazali wigs are not of the same quality as our Fortune line, in appearance, it is practically impossible to tell a Fortune wig from a Mazali. In the long term, a Fortune wig will last longer due to the virgin qualities of the hair. However, if you intend to replace the wig in a few years anyway, a Mazali is the choice for you. The hair used in our Mazali lines comes from China. Conventional wisdom would suggest that considering it’s source, and the plethora of cheap, Chinese hair wigs on the market, a Chinese wig is not a good purchasing decision. This cannot be further from the truth. It is important to understand what separates cheaper from more expensive hair. The initial hair quality is key. We source our hair from a small area along the Northern border of China (bordering on Russia). The hair found is this area is ethnically much closer to the finer European hair due to its proximity to Russia (unlike the vast majority of hair coming out of China). Most Chinese (and Indian) hair is very thick and must be processed with chemicals to soften it and give it the desired look. This processing cause the hair to frizz easily and get ruined easily with exposure to any heat styling. The hair we use requires no such processing. The only processing required with our hair is color. The locals all have dark hair so the natural color must be stripped and replaced with a new color. In closing, the hair used in our Mazali wigs are lightly processed but naturally fine and silky like our European hair wigs. They look very natural and beautiful and will last easily for five years if cared for properly.

Our Comfort line of wigs are made with 100% human hair, exactly the same hair used with our Mazali line. Our Comfort wigs are especially designed for this with little or no hair with a Monofilament cap. The Monofilament cap can be worn comfortably right on the scalp. Additionally, the cap is see-through at the top of the wig. This means that the scalp is visible where the hair parts. This gives the wig a natural look and helps foster the appearance of hair growing directly out of the wearer’s head. The cheaper price can be accounted for with the fact that our comfort line wigs are not sown with a rootless weave. A Comfort wig will have a life span comparable to a Mazali.

Is it crazy to buy a Human Hair Wig on the Internet?

Is it a good idea to buy a human hair wig on the internet?

Here are some common questions regarding shopping on line for Human Hair Wigs:

Q- How can I see on a computer what the hair quality is?

A- You can’t. Hair quality is undetectable from a photo. At Fortunewigs.com we recommend 2 things. First of all, try to get references from other consumers who will certify the credibility of the manufacturer. Secondly, always try to buy from a company that will allow you a full refund if the wig is not what you expected.

Q- Can I trust the color charts that are available on the sites?

A- Most hair color charts are very respectable and accurate. The problem is that different computer monitors will deviate in the shading of the colors. The hair color will rarely be exactly what you saw in the color chart, but probably very close. Our recommendation is to be a little flexable when it comes to color and not to seek perfection.

Q- How accurate are the advertised lengths?

A- This is an easy question. Every wig company is obligated to deliver the product that their Web Site was offerring. Each Wig listing has a product description with a length, and if you receive a wig shorter than you were lead to believe, a great injustice has been done. Do not stand for that.

Q-Will the Wig that I purchase be styled exactly as the photo that I saw on line?

A- This depends on the Wig company. Some companies pre-style the wigs and so when you purchase a wig, it should arrive to you already styled as the photo. Other companies show the wig with a beautiful style but are only offerring the wig in it’s raw un-cut state. It would be up to you to take the wig to a stylist of your choice to have it styled. Many women actually perfer to get it styled with a stylist that they trust. The most practical companies will give the consumer a choice of buying the wig un-cut or pre-styled.

Q- Will an On-Line Wig Company explain to me how to care for my wig?

A- A good On-Line company will. There are also so many “How To” Videos on the internet regarding caring for a 100% Human Hair Wig. You can search Google and You Tube and find Videos on how to Brush a Wig, How to Wash a Wig and How to Blow a Wig for example. Search for Wig Blogs and Forums and you will be amazed how much information you can learn about caring for your Wig.

At Fortune Wigs, we understand that purchasing a Human Hair Wig is a significant investment. We found that it can also be a safe and worthwhile investment. Whether for Fashion or for Medical reasons such as Chemotherapy Wigs, Human Hair Wigs will look better, last longer and make you feel better than Synthetic Wigs. The cost of a Human Hair Wig has a wide range but almost always, buying on line will save you money. In summary, it is not such a crazy idea to buy a Human Hair Wig On Line.

Create your Road Map to Wellness.

When someone hears for the first time that they are diagnosed with Cancer, shock and disbelief is not uncommon. When reality sinks in, it is very crucial to confront the situation in a calm and organized manner. Being organized will not only help assure a smooth medical journey, but in most cases will serve to actually facilitate the healing process. We at Fortunewigs.com strongly suggest that one should consider creating a journal to record helpful and necessary information. The New York Cancer Center (Medstar) created such a journal and it has helped hundreds of patients in their recovery. This journal is broken down into 9 categories. 1-Communicating with your Doctor. 2-A Monthly Calendar. 3-Doctors and Other Important Contacts. 4-Questions to Ask Your Doctor. 5-Medication Chart. 6-Medical Records and History. 7-Insurance Information. 8-Preparing for Surgery or for a Hospital Stay. 9-Personal Notes and Special Care Instructions.

A journal like this will make each and every day easier to cope with and will also sometimes assist the caregivers with the information they need for proper treatments. An organized plan of action, confidence and a positive attitude goes a long way towards one’s road to recovery.
